How to Mosquito-Proof Your Home

Keep the Mosquito Bites at Bay

Believe it or not, there are ways you can keep mosquitos from infesting your home and leaving you with nasty, itchy bites. Applying bug repellant is just one of several ways you can try to keep the mosquitos away. Keep reading to learn about more!

Get rid of stagnant water.

Mosquitos are drawn to stagnant water on toys left outside, plates under flowerpots, or the tops of garbage cans after it rains. They are also drawn to large bodies of water like ponds and kiddie pools. Be sure to drain any standing water in your yard, and empty kiddie pools or buckets to keep the mosquitos away.

Make citronella your best friend.
Citronella candles not only smell great and look decorative outside, but they also deter mosquitos! Wax that contains geraniol is also effective at repelling the unwanted pests. Candles are one of the easiest ways to set the mood at a late night party and minimize the risk of getting bitten.

Apply bug repellant.
Applying bug repellant directly onto your skin and your clothes is another easy way to prevent mosquitos from biting you.

Wear lightweight clothes that cover your arms and legs .
The less skin you have exposed to the outside elements, the less likely you are to get bit. Light-colored clothes actually deter mosquitos as they’re attracted to dark colors. The same goes for your feet! Wear shoes that cover most of or all of your feet to avoid nasty bites.

Turn fans on.
Fans serve more than one purpose; sure, they cool you down on hot summer days, but they also keep the mosquitos away! Ceiling fans, desk fans, and other types of fans make it difficult for the small pests to fly, forcing them to leave the room.
